The political science faculty stretched its winning streak to three (as in three years) with a 14-11 victory in softball over the political science graduate students. The faculty was paced by the hitting of Wonjae Hwang, Tony Nownes, and the hitting and defense of  Joon Han. Jonathan Barsness hit a home run for the graduate students. It was the third straight victory for the faculty in the series. Things do not promise to get better for the graduate students anytime soon. Two of the best players on the graduate student team, first basewoman Allyn Milojevich and shortstop Eric Castater, have completed their doctorates and will be eligible to play for the faculty next year.

The series is not without some controversy. Andrew Smith, the coach of the graduate students, complained after the game about a systematic bias that is affecting the series. Smith noted the faculty get to choose the graduate students. He compared it to allowing Nick Saban, the coach of the University of Alabama to recruit the players for the UT team, and then having the chance to play against those players. He urged the faculty to consider the athletic prowess of potential graduate students when evaluating their applications.
