May it Please the Mock Court?
The nationally ranked UT Mock Trial team is a student-run organization competing in mock trial competitions across the nation. The team generally consists of 25-40 UT students who compete throughout the entirety of that academic year. In the fall, the team attends a variety of private invitational tournaments, and in the spring, the Vols team competes in the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) Championship Series.
Last year, Mock Trial at the University of Tennessee won first place at the Crimson Classic Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama, first place at the Memphis Regional Tournament, fourth place at the MTSU MidSouth Invitational, and fifth place at the Cincinnati regional. The team also took home 10 individual awards, as well as the coveted Spirit of AMTA, which is awarded to the team with the most civility and integrity during a competition.“Mock trial is an exciting way to learn improvisation skills, public speaking, and leadership,” says Kylie Ronnow, president. “The dedicated group of ambitious students created an organization that reflects well on the University of Tennessee all over the country. UTMT has opportunities for every student; it provides important experience in courtroom settings and gives student actors a new and innovative way to improve and hone their craft.”
