Dr. Melanie M. Hughes is Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh. She specializes on women’s political representation globally and on the legislative representation of women from disadvantaged groups. Her award-winning research on minority women in politics worldwide appeared in American Political Science Review. She is also co-author of Women, Politics, and Power: A Global Perspective (Sage Publications), which is now in its 2nd Edition (2013). In 2012, she appeared in Raising Ms. Present, a documentary on the political socialization of girls and women. Currently, she is consulting with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to improve the measurement of women’s political leadership globally.
