At Your Service

Teaching and research are at the core of what political science faculty do, but Professor and Department Head Richard Pacelle reminds us that service to the university, the discipline, and society are just as important.

Serving Appalachia

For two decades, Tim Ezzell (MA ’88, PhD ’96, MS ’02) has taught service-learning classes through the Appalachian Teaching Program, which helps numerous communities in the area.

Fields of Opportunity

A first-generation college student, George Fields has been giving back to the program that encouraged and assisted him in his pursuit of higher education for the last five years.

Signature Experiences

We offer students multi-faceted exposure to American politics, comparative politics, international relations, public policy, and more, but also encourage them to step out of the classroom when possible.

Serving Tennessee

Alexandra Schnelle (BA ’14) came to UT with a life-long interest in politics and currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Staff to Representative Steve Cohen in his DC office.

Application of Knowledge

Our students have the opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world situations through the debate team, mock trial team, and Model UN.

Fitz’s Opus

Professor Michael Fitzgerald, who joined UT in 1978 with a breadth of research and interests that helped grow our program, will retire at the end of this academic year.

Welcome to UT

Alex Osei-Kojo is a new assistant professor in our department who studies environmental and energy policy using policy process theories.
